Day 1 Round Up

The pre lunch session saw the Convention formally inaugurated by none other than Mr. SS Khurana, the Chairman – Railway Board. Mr. Khurana read a glowing speech on IRFCA and professed interest in becoming a member as well.

An interesting presentation on bridges, stations and black beauties was delivered by Mr. Vinoo Mathur, former GM – NR & former Member Traffic.

This was followed by a presentation by Mr. Ashwani Lohani – DRM, Delhi Divn on restoring rail heritage in MP.

The lunch menu consisted of Chicken Tikka Masala, Paneer Lababdar, Rogan Josh, Adarki Aloo Gobhi, Veg Manchurian, Noodles, Pulao and much more.

After digging into the lunch with gusto, the delegates were off to the Tughalakabad Diesel Loco Shed. The visit was graciously arranged by Mr. Ashwani Lohani.

Apart from being shown the loco shed, repair bays and other locations, delegates also saw the famed loco simulator at the shed and some of then even went for a walk around the yard.

After braving Delhi traffic, delegates were back at the NRM for the evening sessions which were started with coffee and pakoras.

A presentation was made by officials from IRCTC who are also our lead sponsors along with IRFCA Member Vikas Chander. IRCTC PPT covered various rail tourism initiatives being carried out by them.

As the evening wore on, chicken tikkas, kebabs & cutlets were passed around while the inimitable Dr. Ian Manning regaled us with stories from his travels across India. This was followed by more stories by IRFCA Member Mr. V Anand and Mr. Romesh Sethi, President ISRS.

Winding up the day were two tributes to the WCG2 by Jattin Bhavsar & Poochivenkat.

Dinner had Butter Chicken, Kadhai Paneer, Daal Makhni, Palak Makai Kofta, Rara Gosht Masala along with Gajar Halwa.

Sunday morning promises to be even more exciting – A whole new format for the IRFCA Quiz followed by the first ever IRFCA Awards.

Watch this space….. so long for now.

  1. Mouth watering menu for lunch and dinner! Reminds me of the amazing time I had at CNB 2008 digging into similar hot food in the February chills! If only there was a way to transfer foood over the internet 😦

Eagerly waiting for the Quiz… please try to incorporate some way to make us lesser mortals participate!

  2. How I wish I could be there.
I really miss listening to all those good old stories from V.Anand sir and Dr. Ian Manning.
Delhi is indeed setting the bar high this time.

  3. Heartening to see IRFCA attracting more and more senior officials. Would love to read some posts from Shri Khurana.

  4. Wow, CRB to whom I had written and to Sri Mathur also about railfanning !! TKD !! My neural signals are alternating bettween RED Yellow, Double Yellow and Green…

Food for the mind is better than the menu on the eating table 🙂

Will you be sharing those speeches and PPTs? PLEASE !!!

  5. Pity that I cannot follow the blog today 😦 Quiz is always interesting

  6. @Vijay – the speech by the CRB wasn’t great shakes by any stretch of the imagination 🙂 He read a prepared statement.

    • Actually, I meant posts by him within IRFCA, assuming he becomes a member and decides to contribute.

  7. Sorely missing all the fun…not to mention the mouth-watering food. Waiting for the PPTs to be shared now…have a blast!
